3.3.4 Members of the multidisciplinary team
For most patients diagnosed with CML in the chronic phase, care is provided jointly by the specialist and the general practitioner, with input from other health professionals (e.g. psychologist, social worker, dietitian, nurse practitioner, trial nurse) as indicated.
Usually there is no need for input from surgeons, radiotherapists or pathologists to develop
a treatment plan. In selected cases where patients have comorbidities, in particular cardiovascular or respiratory, relevant specialist review is appropriate.
The multidisciplinary team should be composed of the core disciplines that are integral to providing good care. Team membership should reflect both clinical and supportive care aspects of care.
See Appendix E for a list of team members who may be included in the multidisciplinary team for CML.
Core members of the multidisciplinary team are expected to attend most MDMs either in person or remotely via virtual mechanisms. Additional expertise or specialist services may be required for some patients. An Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural expert should be considered for all patients who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.
